Gothic art refers to the artistic style that prevailed in Europe from the 12th to the 16th century, during the period known as the Gothic era. It is characterized by its use of pointed arches, ribbed vaults, and flying buttresses in architecture, as well as intricate and detailed decoration in various art forms. Gothic art is often associated with cathedrals, where its architectural innovations allowed for the construction of towering, light-filled spaces. It also extended to other art forms like sculpture, painting, and stained glass, creating a rich and distinctive visual language.
