Gumoil print
Gumoil print |
Gumoil print is a photographic process that combines the gum bichromate and oil print techniques. It involves using a light-sensitive emulsion made of gum arabic, potassium bichromate, and pigment, similar to gum bichromate. The emulsion is applied to a paper or other substrate, exposed to UV light through a negative, and then partially developed using water. After the initial development, a layer of oil-based ink is applied on top of the partially developed emulsion. The oil ink adheres to the gum image, while the water-repellent areas remain untouched. This process allows for a combination of the soft, painterly quality of gum bichromate with the rich tonal range of oil-based inks. Gumoil prints are known for their unique appearance and artistic qualities.
